University of Colorado Vet College Study: Possible Link of Cat Vaccines to Feline Kidney Disease

The University of Colorado is doing a study of the possible link of the FVRCP vaccine to lesions on the kidneys that cause renal disease. A previous report done in 2006 at the vet school showed that when cat's were vaccinated repeatedly in the usual way which is subcutaneously (or right under the skin), lesions formed on their kidneys. Interestingly enough when the vaccine was given intra nasally (or in the nose) no lesions formed.

Now the university is doing a study of cats nationwide. What they need are blood and urine samples of cats who have been vaccinated at least five times. In return the participants will receive a free blood panel for their cat. Any veterinarian can collect the samples and mail them to the veterinary college.
